Do you have any tattoos? If so, what and where? Do they hold special meaning for you? |

Reply with quote | #2 | I had always figured I would get a tattoo someday, but never knew what or where, and so I had never gotten one. When I came out this year, I had just recently learned about the history of the nautical star and lesbians. For those that don't know, here's the story:
Back in the 40's (I think) some lesbians used to tattoo a nautical star on their wrists as a subtle sign to other lesbians that they were gay. It could easily be displayed while in a bar at night, but also could be easily hidden under a watch or other jewelry at work or elsewhere.
I liked this story and the historical aspect of it and decided to get a tattoo of a nautical star on my wrist in the colors of purple and black. I did it the same month I came out. To me it is a symbol of being proud of who I am and it's also a bit of an homage to my lesbian sisters who went before me. The nautical star was also tattooed on sailors alot as a symbol of guidance, because often they only had the stars to guide them. I liked that reference too. Oh, and it also just looks cool. LOL

Myself and my girlfriend got tatoo's a little over a year ago. She got onw on her back below her neck of a flower with black swirl line designs and a blue shading behind it (hard to explain). I got one on my right ankle/upper ankle of a blue flower, it has a lady bug on it for my grandma. Our family always said we would get one someday.. well.. My grandma, mom, aunt and cousin all got some form of lady bug tattoo's when they went for a visit to my aunts (the one that got tattood). I figured, if my 63 year old grandma and little cousins could get tattoo's I couldn't chicken out on them, so went and got it. I think I like it because it meant something to me. If I would have walked into a shop and picked a random one out... there is a possibility that I would get tired of it or not like it anymore. |
